I did not workout.

Reading:

Mias Paradox Chapter 10

Notes:

I attended a Minnesota Ultimate Board meeting last night.  The board is trying to establish their Strategies and Objectives that will be posted on the website and shared with anyone who interacts with the Board professionally.  We spent an hour and a half debating word choice and sentence structure for 5 sentences.  I have a new found respect for how much effort, word-smithing, and the seriousness with which board members approach setting these statements.

Sidenote:  a revenue base is where you are able to draw revenues from.  It is not revenues that you have drawn and placed into a "war chest".

11.28.2016

Workout:

Yoga warm-up
Free Weights

  • 5x5 at 60#, 70#, 80#, 90#, 100#
    • Squats
    • Reverse Lunges
  • 5x3 at 60#, 70#, 80#, 90#, 100#
    • SLDL
    • Thrusters
  • 3x3 at 50#, 50#, 50#
    • RFE
The goal was to do 5x5 of each exercise at 60#, 70#, 80#, 90#, 100#.  Alas, this was harder than it looked and I had to tone it down in order to finish.  Additionally, this took much longer than I wanted.  Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to try to work into 5x5 and then 5x8.

Reading:

The Economist: "The Leaders", "Buttonwood", and "Schumpeter".  I have been fretting that my president Trump is appointing a climate change denier to the head of the EPA, good news is the economics of climate change is on our side.  Oil prices are too low to warrant new drilling sites, the cost of kWh for solar is falling, there are more future jobs in solar than there are in oil, batteries are improving and getting cheaper, India has to take a stand against climate change or risk losing massive pieces of land, and China is going to continue working toward renewables with or without the US.

Notes:

Ray is way ahead of me in the race to programming "god status".  I need to put up more of a fight here.

I am comfortable listening to audiobooks at 2x speed, time to start working toward 3x speed.

"Throwing rocks at the google bus" is an okay audiobook - your time is better spent reading "Capital in the 21st century"

"Algorithms to live by" is a strong recommend.

New audiobook strat.  Listen to three, then relisten to my favorite of the three.  After time elapses I can then relisten to any of the other two, how much time is the question.

Notes:

I have a new found respect for anyone who travels for work and still manages to be ready for tryouts.

Reading:

I did not read.

Sunday

Workout:

I did not workout.

Reading:

I drove to Chicago today and listened to "Throwing Rocks at the Google Bus" on audible.  If you're already a left-leaning blow hard then this book will pump you up, if you are moderate or a right-leaner then this book is not going to convince you of anything.

I want to say this wasn't that hard, but if it wasn't hard how come I was clocking 35s 150s?

Reading:

The Reckoning Chapter 3 and 4

On the rise and fall of the Medici family and King Philip of Spain introducing double entry into his books in order to keep his empire organized.
Notes:

I have passed FAR, REG, and AUD.  I took BEC and expect my score on November 22nd, I am pretty sure that I passed.  I am currently planning on spending a year teaching myself to code, at the end of that year I will dive in the CFA - hopefully, Rabuck will be ready at the same time I am.

11.2.2016

Workout:

  • Yoga
  • Glute Bridge
  • Resistance Band
  • Kettlebell
    • EMOM Squats x10 for 5 minutes
    • EMOM Reverse Lunge x10 for 6 minutes
    • EMOM SLDL x10 for 6 minutes
    • EMOM Swings x10 for 5 minutes
7/10.  These are tough, I must have terrible form on my swings because my back is always killing me afterward.  I foam rolled my back and could have recorded a symphony of muscle pops and ligament cracks.

Reading:

Chapter 3 of The Reckoning:

Datini was an Italian merchant who built his wealth from partnerships and used Arabic numerals to simplify his books.  Datini might be the first "westerner" to have built his wealth as a capitalist.

Notes:

Now that the Cubs have won the world series I am devoid of excuses.

11.1.2016

Workout:

  • 1 leg 4 star drill 3x10
  • 1 leg ankle bounce 3x75
  • Tuck jumps 3x15
  • low box side to side 3x10
  • broad jump 3x5
  • stationary squat jumps 3x15
  • 1-2-3 jump 3x5
6/10.

I threw for the first time in a couple weeks today, throwing is chicken soup for the soul.

Reading:

I read the first two chapters of The Reckoning which gives a history of accounting.  Caesar Augustus maintained a full double-entry accounting system.

10.31.2016

Workout:

150s x2
90s x4
60s x4
120s x2

The goal was to run as many 150s under 30 seconds with full rest as I could until double failure.  I clocked 31s and 31s on my first two.  Walden says that finishing above 30s is a highly dishonorable act.

Went EMOM for the 90s and 60s.

Was frustrated for how slow I was moving that I tossed in the 120s.

I think I should ramp up the "conditioning" aspects of working out to definitely 2 times a week rather than "sometimes 1"

Reading:

I read through the Economist.  This week was a briefing on Canada and how our friends to the north are now the ones upholding liberal values for the world.
